Caregiver of the Month – October 2019

October Caregiver of the Month

What does it take to be Caregiver of the Month here at A Place At Home – North Austin? Think about the work ethic required for someone to be rewarded with being named “Employee of the Month”.  They’d need to have traits like dependability, reliability, and demonstrate strong character and integrity. They’d need to be willing to go above and beyond what is expected of them in an effort to take care of their customers.  All of these same traits are required to be the “Caregiver of the Month”, but they also need to have a commitment to the company’s core values represented by “WE are C.A.R.E.”:

  • Compassion – serve their client with sensitivity and understanding
  • Accountability – stand behind everything they do
  • Respectful – advocate for mutual trust and consideration
  • Ethical – always doing the right thing, maintaining high moral character even when no one else is looking.

When I launched A Place At Home – North Austin earlier this year I made a commitment to hiring the absolute best caregivers. I recognize that my caregivers are a direct representation of me and my business while in our customers home. Prior to opening, I held a career day for prospective caregivers. I interviewed 30+ caregivers and only hired 2 caregivers. I consider myself very fortunate. Lupe was my very first hire and she has proven to be an extremely valuable asset.  Because of Lupe’s commitment to We are C.A.R.E., she has been integral to helping me establish a strong foundation for this business. I believe in empowering my caregivers in the field to make the decisions in the best interests of our clients. Lupe has embraced this completely and she continues to impress me with the decisions she makes.  I know that Lupe is an amazing caregiver, but she is also a problem solver. Her client recently had a problem that needed to be solved. Lupe didn’t wait for the client or the client’s family to solve the problem. Lupe had the solution to the problem sitting in storage at her home and she selflessly donated an item to the customer which solved the problem much faster than it likely would have been solved otherwise. I know the is only one Lupe Garza, but if I’m able to build my business around a group of caregiver’s with hearts half the size of Lupe’s, A Place At Home – North Austin will re-define the standard of care!
