Jerod Evanich and Dustin Distefano have been friends since childhood. Over the course of time, both have experienced family members in various stages of the aging process. Dustin had two great-grandmothers pass at the age of 102. One of them, Estelle Rose, had to move to a nursing home in her early 90s due to a lack of family there to assist her and her refusal to leave the town she had lived in her whole life. This was not an ideal arrangement as she continually tried to run away from the home to find her way back to her home. This situation was a great source of stress on his entire family.
At the same time Dustin was experiencing elder care issues in his family, Jerod found his grandparents’ health deteriorating, but more than anything, they needed someone to assist them at home with daily chores around the house such as groceries, laundry, and cleaning. There was not enough family around to tend to the in home senior care they needed, and Jerod began exploring options to keep his grandparents independent. After researching the industry, he soon realized that in home care was the answer. Fortunately, in Jerod’s case, by the time one of his grandmother’s needed care, A Place at Home was in operation and she was able to receive in home care services, use Senior Living Alternatives to help her find a senior community that fit her needs and financial situation, and even utilize our Care Coordination program.
Jerod’s experience encompasses high-level sales, marketing and operations. He is the founder and co-founder of five start-up businesses. He has been featured in articles in local and national publications on topics that include trends in the healthcare industry, marketing home care companies, home elder care options, and social media marketing. He has also been a featured speaker regarding paying for senior care as well as online and social media marketing for various home care-related conferences. He holds an EMBA and a bachelor’s of science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He also obtained a CNA certificate to allow him to better relate to clients and his staff.
Dustin’s background is in management, sales, operations, customer satisfaction, and employee training. From his early managerial experience in customer-focused businesses, he developed an ability to recognize customer needs and anticipate concerns while providing reasonable and fair solutions. Dustin is a Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) and holds a bachelor’s of science from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Dustin received a CNA certificate to gain experience caring for seniors as well as to better understand his staff’s day-to-day tasks.
Trees hold significant symbolism. The Tree of life is a concept spanning across multiple schools of thought. Whether it’s art, religion, or literature, the Tree of Life largely represents the intertwining of all living things.
At A Place at Home, trees represent powerful meaning. Like others, we think of trees as the symbol of the vitality of life, and those that came before us, and those that will carry on after we are gone. It stands for families and ancestors. It stands for strength, stability, and nourishment.
Like families, the branches grow and extend. The leaves, while in appearance similar, each have their own uniqueness and texture. The roots keep it stable and extract nutrients from the earth to help it develop, grow, and repair.
We think of the care that we provide to families and those in need as the roots that support the family system when it is needed the most. It is a means to help nourish the lives of loved ones and the strength that families need when they can’t do it all themselves. It is a belief that caring, above all else, is the path to ensuring generations can live on in the past, present and future with hope and happiness.
When we developed our logo, we thought long and hard about what it means to provide care to families. We saw the tree as that symbol that would represent our commitment to the lives of all that we serve. And when one of those that we have cared for is gone, we plant trees in honor of them through the Arbor Day Foundation. This assures families that the life of their loved one has meant something of significance and will carry on for future generations to provide a symbol of lasting peace and comfort.
